The Black Mustard Seeds (2023)

A docu-series showcasing seven visionaries share their triumphant journey in being a Black creative in the Arts of Western Canada.

Like mustard seeds in unyielding soil, the cast of this docu-series conquer the underestimation places on the Art space in their hometown of Calgary, AB. In each of their journeys lie a collective experience as an artist - being pushed to move to bigger cities to pursue their passion. Through intimate interviews, we walk through their story of creative resilience through stigmas, racism, and lack of opportunities. This cast inspires young Black Canadians to believe in themselves, prioritize their mental health and witness the pay-off in awe. This series reiterates the theme that all the tools to grow are from the faith within. Dance to visual art, film to music, these visionaries grace the screen with their authenticity leaving a true mark on Canadian Art History.
